11. A cover letter sent along with your resume to a potential employer:
a) the audience is the company in which you are applying, specifically the hiring manager
b) if the cover letter is well organized and professional the audience's reaction should be impressed or please. If the cover letter is unprofessional, the reaction will be dissatisfaction.
c) the audience needs to know who the applicant is, why they are sending the resume, their education, and their attitude.

Week 2

During the second week of class, we discussed Chapter one and how to communicate effectively. The powerpoint discussed how to handle cultural differences in the workplace. When you are working with people from different cultures you have to be considerate and respectful of their beliefs and traditions. Thursday we were assigned the Business Communication Interview. I have decided to interview my Dad who works for a company called Ahold. I think this will be a good opportunity to learn more about my Dad’s job how he handles situations. Since he is project manager of his team, he is constantly communicating with others and having to solve problems within the company. At home, he is on conference calls with people from other countries such as India. I will be able to find out how he handles working with people from different ethnicities.

This year in English 304, I expect to learn skills that will benefit me and my future career goals. One main goal I have for this class is that it will improve my communication skills. Since I will be applying to Physical Therapy schools in a year, interviews will play an important part in my acceptance. If I am able communicate my thoughts and feelings well, an interview process will go smoothly. My freshman year I took Military leadership which allowed me to exempt public speaking; Therefore I have not had a formal class that covered communication skills. I would also like to learn how to properly write a resume and business letter. Not only do I need to write resumes for jobs, but for Physical Therapy schools as well. All of these skills are important for me to know as I enter the real world.
